For our Volunteers

Volunteer Rota Update

By now you will be aware that we are trialing a somewhat different approach to producing the Volunteer Rota.

In line with the developing demands on the food bank, the task of assembling and maintaining our volunteer rotas has become an increasing headache. During a typical week, we are scheduling 100+ shifts involving up to 70 volunteers. Add to this, short notice changes in volunteers’ availability and shift preferences then you can imagine the time involved and the challenge of maintaining a viable Rota whilst keeping all our volunteers in the loop.

The initial use of an on-line application called RotaCentral suggests we might be on the way to offering both Volunteers/Rota Administrator a simple but effective way to choose/allocate shifts.

Should you be a volunteer who opts for a “fixed shift” pattern of volunteering then provided the Rota Administrator is aware of your preference it will be factored into the Rota in advance. You will be given the chance to Accept/Reject or change that preference as soon as the next daft Rota is published.

For those who prefer a more flexible commitment then you can pick your shift[s] or none at all.

If your shift has to be cancelled, then use the link emailed to you by RotaCentral to cancel/change the shift – It’s as simple as that!!

Judging by the amazing response from all the volunteers in the initial weeks it seems you have already worked this out for yourselves but any queries/suggestions then I’d really appreciate hearing from you. I can be contacted on finance@wansbeckvalley foodbank.org

Should you wish to see the bigger picture up to the end of June then please follow this link ….

Please note this is a read-only copy of the Rota. Should you wish to make any changes then please follow the emailed link mentioned above.

Again many thanks for all your support and commitment – John
