Safeguarding:
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults
Wansbeck Valley Food Bank is committed to safeguarding the rights, well-being and safety of children and adults with whom it comes into contact.
We have a lead safeguarding trustee who also assumes the role of designated Safeguarding Officer [David Lea.] Our only contact with children is in school and scouting environments but on all such occasions we are in a regulated activity and under the direct supervision of accredited teaching staff / group leaders. The food bank being located within an NHS Mental Health organisation allows us to interact with some patients who are receiving treatment at Northgate Park. We have certain warehouse duties in which carefully selected patients may be allowed to assist. Only a small number of patients qualify for these activities and only following extensive risk assessment by CNTW. At all times the patient is under the direct supervision of several hospital staff. Contact with vulnerable adults is inevitable when making some home deliveries. Driver volunteers are instructed to be aware of such occurrences. Should they identify any doorstep safeguarding concerns they will immediately contact the food bank senior co-ordinator. The co-ordinator will record these concerns and immediately notify the appropriate local Childrens / Adult Services Department. On the basis that we are supervised in a regulated activity when interacting with children and vulnerable adults DBS checks are not undertaken. All volunteers and staff receive safeguarding training at induction and subsequently through team briefings and after reviews of the policy and consequent actions that may be deemed necessary. |
