Wansbeck Valley Food Bank is seeking to appoint new board members to help guide our work and strengthen the support we provide to local people facing food insecurity.

Our board members play a vital role in shaping the direction of the food bank, ensuring we remain a reliable, dignified, and community‑focused service for those who need us most. Board members give direction on matters such as strategy, governance, partnerships, volunteer welfare and long‑term sustainability.

We are looking for individuals who can bring commitment, insight, and compassion to our team and help us shape the future of the food bank whilst making a lasting and positive impact in our community.

Trustees Duties

The six main duties of a charity trustee in the UK are:

  • carry out your charity’s purposes for the public benefit,
  • comply with the governing document and the law
  • act in your charity’s best interests
  • manage resources responsibly
  • and act with reasonable care and skill.

If you would like to contribute but feel unable to commit fully to the responsibilities of a Trustee, then a Trustee Associate role may be ideal for you. In this role you would contribute to the routine working, governance arrangements and decision making alongside the team.

How We Work

  • Governance and policy
  • Finance and compliance
  • Operational practice
  • Planning for future services and community needs

Meetings are collaborative, purposeful, and centred on improving the support we provide to our clients.

Who Were looking For

We welcome applications from anyone aged 16 or over. We would especially value interest from colleagues within partner organisations, as closer collaboration helps us understand each other’s work, share expertise, and improve the service we offer to local people.

While we understand that Trustees and Associates have other commitments, we encourage new members to contribute actively where they can. Skills in any of the areas listed in the Trustee Enquiry Form [below] would be particularly helpful:

However, enthusiasm, reliability, and a commitment to our mission are just as important and together, we can ensure no one in our community goes hungry ….
